What am I ?? by bryanxander What am I ?? by bryanxander
Imagine you were born with pre-installed intelligence and self awareness.
What would be your very first thought ?

Modeled in 3dsMax 9, rendered with Vray 1.5

It's just a question of training you know, if you try hard enough, you'll be able to do even better. Seriously, you have no idea how crappy my first characters were :D

I might put these old renders in my scraps one of these days, it could be encouraging to some people to see that everyone sucks at the beginning :)

Haha yeah i know what you mean, but where did you learn? i need some kind of tutorial, iv looked everywhere for tuts on how to do a complete model with bones and ik solvers, i know how to do the bones and ik solver on like very very low res models but like creating your own arms, legs, head, body and adding movements to a character, i tried looking but can't find anything...:(

Well I learned by myself mostly, over the years. And I'm still learning :)

Regarding IK solvers, I'm not really interested in animation, so I just quickly rig my characters, just well enough to pose them. But if you're interested, I think the rigging tutorials that are embedded in 3dsmax are the best you can find to learn IKs.

You should have a "3dsmax_t" file there : C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 9\help

You can also access it through Max' main menu in the help section.

As soon as i saw this i thought of the matrix.

My first thought would be to understand my surroundings.

I don't think it would be fear, because fear would be caused by a fear of the unknown - which is essentially a fear of not being in familiar surroundings. And since this person does not know any familiar surroundings she would not be able to experience this fear.

Hi Brittany :)
So basically, no memories, no fear ?

Well I don't think it would be fear either. A curious innocent behavior and the scanning of a random object within her field of vision (including herself, thus the hand) is more likely.

Nah, she doesn't have a problem, she's just "unprocessed".
After being activated she'll get a nice real life-like skin coating, some hair and white contact lenses :)

Thanks, I think it would be mine too, even though it's pretty hard to imagine what you could experience on a first boot :)

But if it turns out to be cognitively possible, I really hope artificial intelligence never reaches that sentient state. This idea really creeps me out and I kinda fear an artificial horizon of events.

Nice render and interesting subject, But i think You didn't choose a good expression for "it"

For me the very first tought have to be more like an instinctive curiosity

an expression more worried

Interesting comment :)

I was pretty puzzled indeed regarding the expression it/she should have. I couldn't decide between curiosity, fascination, surprise, fear, incomprehension, etc... So I kinda threw a weird mix.

It was also easier to play with expressions on my first version, where the eyes were more human like. But I ditched them because I really enjoyed the soulless and alienish look black eyes were giving.
